用語解説

・センサーサイズ

センサーサイズとは、デジタルカメラやビデオカメラなどの撮影機器に搭載されている撮像素子（イメージセンサー）の物理的な大きさのことを指します。

一般的に、センサーのサイズが大きいほど受け取る光の量が多くなり、暗い場所での撮影や高画質の映像を撮影することができるようになります。また、センサーのサイズが大きい場合、写真の背景の自然なボケ効果が得られやすくなるなど、表現の幅が広がります。

・ピクセルサイズ
イメージセンサーの1画素あたりの大きさです。大きいほど受光面積量が増え、高感度性能が良くなります。
また、大きいほどダイナミックレンジが広くなり、白飛び・黒潰れに強くなると言えます。

・ピクセルビニング
高画素イメージセンサーで用いられ、複数のピクセル(画素)を1つにまとめる技術です。
スマホでは、32MP / 48MP / 50MP / 64MPなどのイメージセンサーが 4in1 (4つを1つにまとめる)。
108MPは9in1、200MPは16in1ピクセルビニングを実行します。(108MPでは、一部4in1のイメージセンサーもあります)
ピクセルビニングをすることで全体の画素が大型化し、感度・ダイナミックレンジが向上します。

・FWC (Full Well Capacity / 飽和容量 / 飽和電荷量)
FWCとは、ピクセルが受光した電荷を格納することができる最大容量のことを指します。

FWCが大きいほど、ピクセルが受光した電荷を正確に表現できる範囲(ダイナミックレンジ)が広がります。一方で、FWCが小さい場合、ピクセルが受光した電荷が多くなりすぎると、それ以上の電荷を格納できずに正確なデータが得られなくなることがあります。(露出オーバーなど)

FWCはカメラの性能を決定する重要な指標のひとつであり、動画撮影や高感度撮影などの用途で重要な役割を果たします。

・Dual PD
左右2つのフォトダイオード(PD)を1つのペアとして画素を形成し、オンチップレンズ(OCL)を共有構造とすることでそれぞれのPDに別々の入射光が入り、位相差検出が可能になります。
画像信号として使う際には左右で得た情報を合算して位相差の影響を打ち消します。

・OctaPD
Quad Bayer (4in1ピクセルビニング) イメージセンサーにおいて、DualPD方式を掛け合わせたオートフォーカス技術です。
HDR動作時、長時間露光・中時間露光・短時間露光の全ての画素で位相差検出が可能なのはOctaPDだけの特徴です。

・2×2 OCL
Quad Bayerイメージセンサーにおいて、1つのOCLを4つの画素で共有します。
DualPDの「画像信号として使う際には左右で得た情報を合算して位相差の影響を打ち消す」という動作が不要なため、解像度を高めやすいことがメリットです。

・2×1 OCL
イメージセンサー上の一部の画素をAF用として使用し、1つのOCLを2つの画素で共有します。
左右の位相差検出を行い、すばやくフォーカスを決定します。

・Super PD
イメージセンサー上の一部の画素をAF用に使用しています。
構造的には2×1 OCLと全く同じと言っていいほどよく似ており、1つのOCLを2つの画素で共有する構造になっています。

・Double Super PD

Double Super PDは、「Super PD」を2つ組み合わせた構造を採用しています。この構造により、従来のPDAF技術と比較して、被写体の位置検出の精度が向上し、低照度下でも高速で正確なオートフォーカスが可能になります。

また、Double Super PDは、フォーカス位置の検出だけでなく、被写体の距離情報も同時に取得することができるため、被写体追従性にも優れています。これにより、高速移動する被写体を追従しながら、正確にフォーカスを合わせることができます。

・SuperQPD
1つのOCLを4つの画素で共有し、縦方向・横方向の両方の位相差を検出します。
現状では200MPイメージセンサーのみで搭載されています。

・Dual Pixel Pro
従来のDual Pixelでは全ての画素は左右に分割されていましたが、Dual Pixel Proは緑の画素を斜め方向に分割。
これにより、左右の位相差検出だけでなく、上下方向の位相差検出も可能になっています。

・DOL-HDR
長時間露光/短時間露光の写真を順に撮影し、HDR合成する機能です。

・Clear HDR
Dual Conversion Gainに対応したイメージセンサーで、HighゲインとLowゲインを同時に取得し、HDR合成します。
Staggered HDRやDOL-HDRよりも高速で、アーティファクトが出ないことがメリットです。

・Staggered HDR
DOL-HDRのSAMSUNG版です。

・Stagger HDR
DOL-HDRのOmnivision版です。

・Smart-ISO Pro
Clear HDRのSAMSUNG版です。

・Inter-Scene DCG
HighゲインとLowゲインを取得して合成しますが、Clear HDRやSmart-ISO Proのように同時出力をするわけではなく、順番に取得するのでアーティファクトが出やすいです。

・DCG-combined
Clear HDRのOmnivision版です。

・2×2 ML (2×2 Micro-Lens PDAF)
イメージセンサー上の画素の3%～6%をPDAFに使用。
2×2 MLは1つのOCLを4画素で共有するので2×2 OCLと似ていますが、2×2 OCLはあくまでSONYの全画素AF技術であり、2×2 MLとは異なるものです。

・Contrast AF
レンズを前後に動かし、最もコントラストが高いシーンを判別してフォーカスを合わせます。
PDAFよりもフォーカスが遅く、動体被写体にも弱いため、主にローエンドのイメージセンサーで採用されています。

・カラーフィルター (Color Filter Array / CFA)
イメージセンサーの各画素上に置かれた、色情報を取得するためのフィルター。
RGB Bayer (RGGB) 構造が最も広く普及しており、これは2×2のピクセル内にRedがひとつ、Greenが2つ、Blueを1つ含みます。
より感光性能を高めるためのRYYBやRGBWもあります。

・トランスファーゲート (TG)
トランスファーゲートは、フォトダイオード(PD)からフローティングディフュージョンノード(FD)への移動を制御します。

トランスファーゲートを通過できる最大電荷数は、イメージセンサーのパフォーマンスに大きな影響を与えます。トランスファーゲートをより多くの電子が通過できるようになれば、ピクセル内のフォトダイオードのサイズの大型化が可能になります。

トランスファーゲートの最大伝達容量は、ダイナミックレンジなどの複数の画質パフォーマンス指標に影響を与えることが知られています。

・二層トランジスタ
従来のCMOSイメージセンサーでは、光を電気信号に変換するフォトダイオードと、その信号を制御する画素トランジスタが、同じ基板上に形成されていました。このため、限られた領域の中で、いかに飽和信号量を大きくするかが、高画質化における大きな課題となっていました。

二層トランジスタでは、このフォトダイオードと画素トランジスタを異なる基板に形成し、積層させることで、この課題を解決しています。

二層トランジスタのメリット

ダイナミックレンジの拡大: 従来比約2倍の飽和信号量を実現し、暗い部分から明るい部分まで、より広い範囲の明るさを表現できるようになりました。

ノイズの低減: 信号経路が短くなり、ノイズの混入が少なくなり、よりクリアな画像を得ることができます。

Terminology

・Sensor Size

・Pixel Size

・Dual PD

・OctaPD
OctaPD is an autofocus technology that combines the DualPD method with Quad Bayer (4-in-1 pixel binning) image sensors.
Only OctaPD is capable of phase detection at all pixels for long, medium, and short exposures during HDR operation.

・2×2 OCL
In Quad Bayer image sensors, one OCL is shared by four pixels.

・Super PD
A portion of the pixels on the image sensor is used for AF.

・Double Super PD

・SuperQPD

・2×2 ML (2×2 Micro-Lens PDAF)
3% to 6% of the pixels on the image sensor are used for PDAF.
2×2 ML is similar to 2×2 OCL because one OCL is shared by 4 pixels, but 2×2 OCL is only SONY’s all-pixel AF technology and is different from 2×2 ML.

・Contrast AF
Focuses by moving the lens back and forth to determine the scene with the highest contrast.
Because it is slower than PDAF and less sensitive to moving subjects, Contrast AF is mainly used with low-end image sensors.

・Color Filter Array (CFA)
A filter placed on each pixel of an image sensor to obtain color information.
The RGB Bayer (RGGB) structure is the most widely used, containing one Red, two Green, and one Blue in a 2×2 pixel.
RYYB and RGBW are also available for better photosensitive performance.

・Transfer Gate (TG)
The transfer gate controls the transfer from the photodiode (PD) to the floating diffusion node (FD).

The maximum number of charges that can pass through the transfer gate has a significant impact on image sensor performance. The more electrons that can pass through the transfer gate, the larger the size of the photodiode in a pixel can be.

The maximum transfer capacity of the transfer gate is known to affect several image quality performance metrics, including dynamic range.

・2-Layer Transistor
In conventional CMOS image sensors, the photodiode that converts light into an electrical signal and the pixel transistor that controls that signal are formed on the same substrate. Therefore, a major challenge in achieving high image quality has been how to increase the saturation signal within a limited area.

The double-layer transistor solves this problem by forming the photodiode and pixel transistor on different substrates and stacking them.

Advantages of Dual Layer Transistors
